I assume because they have addictive personalities and the high it gives them feels great at the time. Plus, I think it's cheap and easy to make. I really have no idea. I have no desire to ever try that or any other narcotic

i'm an ex meth addict.
i used meth recreationally to start with, just every once i a while. (how i came to start using drugs at all is another story altogether though)
then i broke up with my partner. it was horrible. i was so angry, confused and distressed, one day i said "nuts to this, i'm gonna go out and have a good time - i'll get some meth" and there you have it.
that night was the best night i'd had in ages, i wasn't crying, and i actually felt really good about the break-up. i could talk about it to people without being upset about it. it just switched all those upset feelings off. that was amazing to me.
it was an easy and cheap quick-fix to how down i was feeling.
i also worked in a bar and it made me get my job done, really well and super fast. i was very industrious. i felt that even though i'd just broken up with someone, i could still work and just get on with it, if i had some meth.
anyway, to cut a long story short - everytime i came down from the effects, the emotional pain was overwhelming. so, i just kept scoring more meth. until i realised i was addicted and couldn't stop even if i wanted to. this was such a hard realisation. i was malnourished, had wobbly teeth and had pulled massive chunks of my hair out.
so essentially, in my case, i was self-medicating to try to stop some emotional pain. this resulted in addiction and made my whole situation even worse.
when i made the deicision to quit, it was difficult physically and psychologically - but then i had to deal with all the pain of the break-up which was still there as i'd refused to deal with at the time.
i was suicidal at this point. i didn't want to be an addict, but couldn't cope with the amount of pain i was in.
i relapsed several times before i finally got better. i haven't used in about four years now and am now in treatment for depression and anxiety issues which were around before the addiction, but were heightened by it.
my advice is to never ever use this drug. it's so deceptive, it grabs a hold before you even know it and can really make your life a whole lot worse than it needs to be.
i would also like to point out, that in my view, drug addiction is usually just a symptom of something else - such as depression or anxiety issues. but sometimes it can be borne out of sheer stupidity too.

I disagree somewhat that it gets you "high". Unless you smoke it or shoot it, it does not. It's initial effects are performance enhancing. The US government gives it to fighter pilots. You don't need to sleep, and your reflexes are faster. The trouble comes with long term use. After you come down from it you crash. The answer to the crash is either 24hrs + of sleep or more speed. Tolerance builds with extended use so more is required to stay amped up. The lack of sleep and constant stimulation leads to amphetamine psychosis. Often, hardcore drinkers use it so they can drink all night. The drug is extremely hard on the body. I advise everyone to STAY AWAY FROM IT.
Hey Scott B. You know nothing. Be quite.

Because it gets them very euphoric. But being that high isn't natural and your body pays a price. It is also a class C felony to possess even a small amount of methamphetamine. Don't get started using it. Please read the N.A. Big book to learn more about those who have lost everything due to drug addiction.

People use drugs like Meth because they get you high, and they like the feeling. Most people who continue to use drugs, like meth, do so because the drugs are addictive. Meth can be made in homes using lots of dangerous chemicals and "cooking" them together.

To the guy above me, it doesn't get you high? Oh ya, I have seen all of those fighter pilots with no teeth that weigh 85 pounds hanging out downtown every night begging for change. To the guy that asked the question, it gets you high and it feels great, for a while. Then you get strung out and have to have it to function and so on and so on.
