Panic attacks are treatable by medication and/or therapy. Alternative therapies can also help. So depending on which route you want to take, realize that she has options.

Meds can calm down the frequency and intensity of panic attacks. Cognitive behavioral therapy in conjunctions with the meds can be very effective. It doesn't happen overnight though. She may need to wait several weeks to gain the full benefits of the drugs. She'll also have to work at this. She has to understand that it's not a matter of getting the pills alone. Her effort will be required, but she will definitely start to feel better.
As for alternative routes, she could try hypnosis or products like PureCalm. There are other choices, obviously, and as time passes, these will become clearer. The most important thing I will say is: seek help as soon as possible. It could lead to other issues like agoraphobia or depression. Good luck.

I have read some litterature about panic attacks. But they allways seem to have a more scientific approach and that is nothing I need in my struggle to survive those horrible panic attacks. This is a "hand on" and very practical book. I felt it was written to me. I am sure that you are going to feel the same.

Joe Barry writes exactly how I think. The examples are perfectly described. And the method is genius. I recommend this book and thanks Joe Barry for writing it. It changes your life

Panic attacks are no joke. I have been suffering from anxiety/panic disorder for almost 2 years now. I used to be on all sorts of anti-anxiety anti-depressant medication. Zoloft, Xanax, anything...you mention it...I proabably was on it. It's a very difficult time in her life. Let her know that you are there for her no matter what, people with panic attacks feel lonely at times. Show her your support. First of all she should visit a doctor so that she can start medication for her attacks. Even though I wouldn't recommend medication for a long period of time, you start getting used to it and too much drugs for your body is not good. I stopped taking medication for a while now. I've turned to natural remedies, like Valeria. They are pills, but natural pills. Those help you relax. Tell her to take a hot bath, drink some warm milk. Tell her to read a book or do something that will keep her mind off her anxiety.Remember panic attacks are a mental condition, as long as her mind is relaxed that will help her body feel relaxed too and make the panic attacks less.

One more thing, please make sure she doesn't consume alot of caffeine, that can worsen her condition.

Best of luck! Hope she gets better soon!

Have her get to the doctor for a check-up. Panic attacks come from a hormonal imbalance in the brain. They can be severe and extremely frightening. I almost died from a severe panic attack, so they are nothing to fool around with.

The doctor can prescribe an anti-depressant and something like Xanax. The Xanax will calm her down quickly when an attack comes on, and the anti-depressant will block most panic attacks once it gets into her system, 6 to 8 weeks.

But don't delay in getting medical attention. They are common and treatable and no one needs to suffer from them.
