My dad has the Walther P-22. It is a blast to shoot. It has only malfuntcioned once in 2-3 years, and that was due to 'super cheap' ammo. It is small and very concealable. It has light recoil, and looks cool. As for self defense, its not the best round, but being shot with a .22 would ruin my day. A .22 lacks enough power so that when it goes through someone/thing, it bounces around on the inside. My grandpa used to drop deer with a .22 when he shot it in the ear. One shot one kill has a nice ring to it, but isnt it much better to shoot them and stop them from trying to hurt.disarm them?
As far as accuracy goes, I have not tried it out that much. It hits what I point at most of the time, which is good since i'm not such a great small psitol shooter. Anyway, I would highly reccomend this handgun to anyone looking for a cheap, well made, cheap-to-shoot, semi-auto pistol. Hope this helped. God Bless.

Having fired both handguns, I'll highly recommend the P99 over the P22. Yes ammo for the P22 is cheaper, but the P22 is lacking the quality one would expect from Walther, with the P99, the quality is there and the accuracy is superb. Which P99 are you considering? The 9mm or the 40sw? I've shot both and recommend the 40sw, altho the 9mm version is just as good, and 9mm ammo is cheaper than 40sw ammo.

My friend owned a Walther P99QA. It was an awesome gun. He currently owns a Sig Sauer Mosquito (similar to the P22). Both are fun to shoot and Walther is a well built firearm. I do not like the newer ones though. They changed a few features like the mag release a little longer than the original 99s. If you purchase the 22, use the higher end .22 ammo. The cheap stuff from walmart does not cycle properly. Hope that helps.

I own the P22 and P99.. I personally prefer shooting the P22 it is a sweetheart of a piece. It's fun and reliable, I like the fact I can go through a 50 cent box of shells versus a 10.00 box of shells when I am just plinking.

Go for the 22 for target practice but when it comes down to it the p99 9mm is the best i have just purchased a p99 As 9mm and i have to say its a very enjoyable weapon both at the range and if it had to be for defense the 22 is designed for fun target shooting at the range only thing that makes the 22 better is its a little lighter but the 9mm has loads more benefits

Shooting a 9mm(or virtually any centerfire) is much more satisfying than shooting a .22lr. Then, if you need it for personal defense, it's right there. I believe that the P99 should be a little more accurate and capable of greater ranges, as well as more dependable than the P22.

as much as I believe the different posters on the reality that a P22 is confusing to income to a P99 (the former being a rimfire mutually as the latter is a centerfire) a opinion could be extremely made as to high quality. The P99 is bigger high quality through fact it should be this way. Being a centerfire potential that areas could be greater good. Rimfire pistols tend to have smaller, weaker areas and characteristic a tendency to now and lower back have a "low priced" experience to them (even a Browning Buckmark). Rimfires can use greater plastic than centerfires as nicely (the cheap style of plastic). yet, in no way enable this deter you from taking area in a staggering rimfire pistol! The P22 could have little greater appropriate accuracy (.22 is an extremely precise shell and elementary to regulate) yet is constrained in selection through short barrel.

On the same topic, does anybody know where could I buy a P99 AS 9mm in BC, and what would a fair price be for it? I asked a gun store in Vancouver, they are out of stock and said that if they get it, they would want 1400 CAD for it. That sounds like a total ripoff, considering that south of the border it sells for around 600 USD. Any info appreciated, and Thanks!
