I have asthma, and right now I have a cold. Is it best to use a warm mist humidifier, or a cool mist one?

There is no difference - both accomplish the same thing - getting moisture into the air. All humidifiers, hot or cold, can create mold if not properly cleaned.

A Warm mist type can generate warm steam that may cause wallpaper to become unglued. There is the concern of burns if you come in contact with the heating element. Many warm mist ones allow you to add medications which may be helpful. The cool mist variety may make the air in the room much more cooler than usual.
