I have only been in the city twice and with someone who knew what they were doing. I would like to get to La Guardia from Grand Central by the M60 bus line but have no idea where to get on, get a ticket (do I pay on the bus?) and any other helpful tips would be awesome.

Actually, you'd be better taking ANY Metro-North train from Grand Central (doesn't matter what line - Harlem, Hudson, New Haven.....just as long as the train stops at the Harlem-125th Street Station); no need for a subway.

Purchase a ticket at the ticket window and look at the silver boxes for the train departures. Once you get to the 125th Street station, cross 125th Street and head to a tall green pole with a round sign that has a bus on it as well as the route...M60 (LaGuardia Airport)...there should be one right across from the station entrance itself. The bus itself has a little plane on the readout next to the M60.

You can either have $2.00 in change (the MTA buses do not accept dollar bills) or get a Metrocard at one of the machines in Grand Central (they may have them at 125th Street as well.)

there are 2 ways you can use to take the M60 bus to LGA:

take the #4, #5, or #6 Lexington Avenue train uptown from GCT to 125th Street, and the M60 going to LGA will stop on the 125th Street side of the southeast corner of Lexington Avenue right in front of the Pathmark supermarket. the fare is $2, payable only in coins, or use a Metrocard. the M60 is a regular city bus.

the other way is to take the #1 Broadway / 7th Avenue train uptown to 103rd Street / Broadway, and walk up Bway three blocks (on the east side of the street - the side going north) to 106th Street, where you will see a bus shelter on the northeast corner of the intersection, in front of the Duane Reade drugstore.

the 2nd option is a longer ride, but the advantage of it is that you'll catch the M60 where it begins, so that you will always be able to get a seat, which might be worthwhile if you a carrying a small bag or two. if thanksgiving is like any other day on the M60, you'll definitely be standing by the time you get on Lexington Avenue and 125th Street.

happy travels!

PS - BTW, you will be able to make the entire trip either way on one $2 fare on one Metrocard; no need for loose change! after you get on the subway with your card, just stick the same card in the bus you get on, and the free transfer will automatically register.

You pay the ticke on the bus. Or check this:

Just so you know: there will be no traffic on thanksgiving day because most of new yorkers get out the city. So take a cab if you prefer, it should not cost you more than $15 and it is much more comfortable and a 15 minutes drive...
