No.
The US military is committed to a strategy of using highly-trained, well-equipped, professional soldiers in relatively small numbers, rather than large numbers of minimally-competent concripts.

i personally believe that a system of unoversal service, either military or public service works should be instituted in this country. A military draft isnot needed at this time but I think most young people have a sense of entitlement in this country and no sense of responsibility. It was John Kennedy who said "Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country." A military draft is not needed but some way of having the field leveled for those that chose to serve and those that chaose to get ahead on their backs while making fun of them and calling them names should be instituted. It won't be because too many people think it is their right to take and never give anything back except criticism and whines. Daniel-Every army in history has depended on a draft; Roman military service was requuied of all Roman citizens, World War One and Two both relied heavily on the draft, American Civil War, British Navy and Army had "Press Gangs" to force people on the street to join then went to a draft, German Army had a draft in WW2 and the Russian outlook was join or be shot at that time. No major military in a major conflict has been totally voluntary. Might be a money saver since the better pay and allowances for the lower ranks (E1-E4, non-careerist) in the modern "volunteer" militaries are based on attracting volunteers; if you can draft them then you have no reason to give then a good wage. Check military pay and see what happend when the draft ended and the U.S. went all volunteer.

Yes-read history. The only long service professional military that has never tried a military coup is ours. Every other one I can find has, at least, tried. If you can find one that hasn't, let me know. Conscript armies are not completely immune, but they don't have the intense identification with the military institution instead of the country and constitution. Besides, the individual soldiers are less costly, and the obligation of national defense is not pushed off on people who see service as an improvement in their economic situation. I understand this is unpopular, but If we don't draw lessons from history, why study any?

No draft. Having served in the all volunteer Navy, I would not wish to place my life in the hands of someone who did not want to be there.
They could repair the oncoming shortage of military personnel by reworking the outdated physical and age standards. Many if not most of the Naval jobs could now be performed by older people and I, for one, would gladly reenlist if I were allowed to do so.
I suspect that quite a few of the jobs in the other services are also 'do-able' by older people.

Yes, I think we need to re-institute the draft. Being an all volunteer military is great, but we don't have enough people willing to volunteer. There are too many of the same people going on too many deployments, we are getting tired and we need some fresh faces on the front. All you people are saying Republicans this and Democrats that, it is not one specific political party that keeps this war going, it is the entire political system. All of Capitol Hill is responsible.

No, I do not believe we are in a position to start the draft up again. I do believe we should be offering a very strong bonus program to those high sensitive MOS jobs where we need to maintain the same people in the military.
Our military might is not built on numbers anymore but on intelligence and technological advantage.

Definately not! I would never want to fight beside someone in a combat zone that didn't have the balls to sign up in the first place.
Then again... perhaps they'll just dodge the draft, hide in Russian territory for a while and then come back to the US and be President!

No, there is no other country in the world that could attempt an all volunteer military like us. None, they could never have a military. We will leave it that way just to prove to the world our military not only is the best but volunteers to stay that way.

Of course not. "Let's have a Draft" is merely the latest idiot game being played by Liberals trying to harm America. There is NO REAL NEED for one.
And no, Sahara, I'm not surprised at all.
