WinZip isn't completely free, it's shareware.
You can download & use it for free, but you do get nagged to buy the full version.

(There may be some advanced features disabled in the "free" version though. I don't honestly know that, I may be wrong about it, it wouldn't surprise me if I was correct though!)

A basic version of WinZip is built in to XP and the commercial version isn't free.
I use the free IZArc instead, from:
