China is damned smart.
They send their best and brightest overseas for education. They know the western schools are better and in order to help advance China into the new century, its going to take superior education.
Eventually the Chinese universities will be on par with the west, but that will take decades of hard work and changing the long held backwards education policies and teaching styles and of course, money.

No , but I am worried about the 2 coal fired power stations being built by China every week, about 100 a year. I do not accept that China is communist any more,
I have a question: Does the Chinese government use Internet forums like Yahoo Answers to get an indication as to how western people are thinking?

So? What's wrong with that? Is that any different than Swedish students intending to return to Sweden or Mexicans intending to return to Mexico. If Cal Tech opens its doors to foreign students who often EXCEED entry requirements by a huge margin, then so be it. If the staff at Cal Tech is happy, I'm happy. There's no reason for me not to be "happy" about it, whatever constitutes "happiness" IYO. I remember a student from Ethiopia in my entry level Calculus class way back in the dark ages once upon a time. He was really cool, and he and I often debated the aesthetic qualities of various co-eds on campus!
So what are you advocating here? Refuse admission to qualified Chinese foreign exchange students from China, simply because their government is an oppressive dictatorship? Actually, it's a good thing. These students cannot but be influenced by American culture and our more open society. Remember the Beijing student uprising? That's an example of Chinese college students for you. Would that more college students like these existed in the world. They are smart, courageous and willing to take a stand for what is right and true. Give me Chinese students any day in my Math courses or Philosophy courses. Big deal, doesn't bother me a bit.

Why not?
Having them live among us is a good idea. Maybe some of our culture will rub off onto them and vice versa.
