The only PS3's that will play both PS1 and PS2 games are the 20GB, 60GB, and 80GB PS3.

Also, the 80GB PS3 can't play as many PS1 and PS2 games as the 20GB and 80GB PS3 can. The 40GB PS3 can't play PS2 or PS1 games though. So if you want to play your PS2 games then you'll have to get the 60GB or 80GB PS3, the 20GB PS3's aren't made anymore.

There a list of games on the sony website that work and are backwards compatible, most are ok.

You will need to buy the 60GB model though as the 40GB does not support PS/PS2 games.

I read it in the ps3 description that ps1/ps2 games would be able to work in a ps3 unit though I researched about it and theyy say that ps2 games are not so visually appealing when played in the ps3 and some around 200 games won't work.. :(

This depends on the model of PS3 that you have.

the 40 gig PS3 has 0 backwards compatiblity.

Anyway, use this link to see which PS3 games you can use on your PS3 (assuming you have the 60 or 80 gig models)

http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus

Simply select the model you have, type the name of the game you want to play, and hit enter, if the game works fine, it should say "no known issues," if not it will list the kinds of problem you might encounter.

Hope this is helpful.

Yes, ps2 games work on 20, 60, and 80gb models, but ps2 games will not work on the 40gb model.

For the ridiculous price it's going for it should be compatible.
But you won't be able to save your games using the memory card from a ps2 to a ps3.

They should work fine. My boyfriend bought an Xbox 360, and the Xbox games work. Same thing with his Wii, his Game Cube games work on that system as well.
