Encino in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles is a suburban/residential community. It is generally middle to upper middle class, has a substantial Jewish population (like many affluent Los Angeles neighborhoods..)and has its share of celebrities living mainly South of the Blvd (Ventura Blvd., that is..). Michael Jackson and his family actually moved to Encino when they became famous and they grew up on Hayvenhurst Avenue. His parents still live there too. Some other celebrities that formerly lived in Encino/currently reside in Encino include Kirstie Alley, Lisa Kudrow, John Wayne, Ashley Simpson, David Grohl, Michael Milken (billionaire), Samuel L. Jackson, Phil Hartman, and many others.

There is also a lot of popular culture that references Encino. The first poster referred to "Patchy the Pirate"--he's a character from the popular cartoon Spongebob Squarepants who lives in Encino.

Yes. I've been there, and can tell you it's probably 95% more expensive than anywhere else in LA.

Zipskinny.com is a good website to show how it compares to other parts of LA.

North of Ventura is middle and some upper-middle class, while south of Ventura (the hills) are the estates and mansions of the wealthy and celebrities (who you can sometimes see if you shop at Gelson's).
