The only person I know of who has Lou Gherig's syndrome is the eminent cosmologist in Great Britain, Stephen Hawking. He is confined to a wheelchair and has to converse with a computer. He has been able to do research, write a number of books , attend conferences and function as a proffesor in a University He may have mood swings but he doesn't let them impair his mind.. I don't think mood swings are a problematic characteristic of ALS.
