OK, so what do you pray to this deceased relative? Are you talking to them or praying to them thinking they are the ruler over all things? If so, then yes you are worshiping them in a weird kind of way? Are you thankful to them for your life, or saving for saving you from an eternity in hell?
If I could just guide you in the right direction would suggest you read the book of Romans. And confess your sins to Jesus, and believe that He is Lord?? I will pray for you!

That depends on what you are 'praying' ... I 'talk to' some deceased relatives, but that is NOT 'prayer' UNLESS I ask the deceased to 'speak with God' about it. In other words, when you pray to Mother Mary (Jesus' mother) you are not 'worshiping her, but are asking her to intercede with God on your behalf. It's a similar thing if you 'pray' to your deceased relative. If you say 'I worship you' in your heart or mind, it may be blasphemous ... if you ask them to intercede with God for you, it's FINE.

Why are you praying to a deceased person??? The Bible says, " the dead cannot hear you or help you". So you are wasting your time, you may get an answer to your prayer BUT it will not come from your lost love one But the devil himself...

Depends on what you say, just like when you talk to a living relative. Both the living and dead can become idols, but not necessarily. There is nothing special about death that makes them more or less an idol. It is your relationship towards them that matters.

You are trying to communicate with them. Prayer is a form of silent speech. If nobody is listening to that speech, you are merely thinking silently to yourself. If you believe the person addressed is able to tune into your thoughts and understand them, then you believe yourself to be in contact with the dead. God's Word, the Bible, expressly forbids his people to try to communicate with the dead.

Think about possible reasons why that should be so, and then heed God's warning. He will not be mocked. All prayer should be addressed to God, through Jesus Christ. There is no other biblical format for prayer.

How do you define worship?
I'd say, in this situation, you are just talking to your deceased relative via prayer. Not a sin.

--IT WOULD SEEM so since any reference to praying , in the Bible is either to the God of the Bible, Jehovah or to false gods of the nations!
PRAYING is an exclusive way of worship, nothing else come close as to importance in any worship!

--DOES PRAYING to someone who is dead CONSTITUE false worship it would seem so , since the Bible condemns the inquiry of the dead through spiritism:

(Deuteronomy 18:10-13) . . .There should not be found in you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, anyone who employs divination, a practicer of magic or anyone who looks for omens or a sorcerer, 11 or one who binds others with a spell or anyone who consults a spirit medium or a professional foreteller of events or anyone who INQUIRES OF THE DEAD (my caps). 12 For everybody doing these things is something detestable to Jehovah, and on account of these detestable things Jehovah your God is driving them away from before you. 13 You should prove yourself FAULTLESS WITH Jehovah your God."

Praying to is asking for help. Adoration is worship.

You don't adore your old deceased Aunt Chlotilde, do you?

Praying to a deceased relative does NOT mean that you're worshipping them.

But it DOES mean you're breaking God's Laws, and you might even get an answer - but it WON'T be from God!!!

It also means you're putting yourself into a dangerous spiritual position to be swept up by the devil or one of his minions, and lose your very soul in the process!

The Bible says it like this: Don't!

Praying is not necessarily religious nor does it require a belief in a deity. The mind is more powerful than we realize.
