I am actually doing this at my wedding. I think it is a great idea. We are getting ours from Baltimore Cupcake Company. ( baltimorecupcakecompany.com if you would like to see pics of the ones there. ) We are going to put ours on a tiered cake stand with each tier being a different flavor. I do not think this is cheap at all. (especially since our cupcakes are going to end up costing 5 per cupcake.) and we could probaly get a cake for cheaper. Good Luck

Hi and congratulations!

NO...it is NOT wrong and it is NOT cheap looking. As a matter of fact, it's becoming quite popular! Look at these photos:

Perhaps, get a VERY small cake for you and your groom so you can have the "traditional" cake cutting/pictures, etc. But then have cupcake. I did see one photo somewhere, which was a cupcake "tree" and then a little cake on top that the bride and groom could cut. It was really nice looking. You may want to do something like that. Yes, I would go for it! Good luck!

We're having cupcakes! Cupcakes have had kind of a silly, special meaning for us throughout our relationship, so this is one way to personalize the wedding, that's kind of our own
inside joke. And, to other posters: cupcakes are not necessarily cheaper. Our venue would have provided either the cake or one of a variety of desserts. We decided to offer a dessert with dinner and then buy the cupcakes to be served around 10:00 pm, so for us it's not a question of saving money. Fancy decorated cupcakes aren't cheap!

I personally adore the idea. So much so, we're doing this for our own wedding. We will have about 200 cupcakes on platters at various heights. The table will all be draped in fabric so it's flow-y and on the highest pedestal, we'l have a small 2 tiered wedding cake for cutting. Although I love the cupcake idea, I thought I might feel like I cheated myself out of my opportunity to "cut the cake"...I hate the idea of sheet cakes-there's nothing special about them really.

Another plus with cupcakes is that you can get them in all different flavors which would satisfy anyone! Don;t like chocolate cake? No problem, we have yellow, orange, strawberry, carrot....you just can't do that with a standard wedding cake.

I think it's cute, but when you look back you may not like the way it comes out in pictures. My fiance' and I decided to go with a small cake (to feed 50 even though we have 100 guests) We are doing a cupcake tower with various flavors as the groom cake. That way we don't pay to feed 100 people with the expensive cak, but we have enough desserts for everyone and a lot of flavors to choose from.

In this day and age when more and more couples are doing things outside the norm at their weddings, I think cupcakes are an absolute wonderful and cute idea. Who's to say that you have to have a traditional wedding cake? There are pictures of cakes on the web that are far from traditional , and I have seen some of cupcake wedding cakes (even Krispy Kreme donut wedding cake towers). Do what you want for your wedding and don't worry about it. This is your day and you should have everything the way YOU want it! Good luck!!!

I was a planner for a Bride who did cupcakes and it was such a joy to see everyone's face light up because they had instant gratification and no long lines or waiting to see if there was enough cake to go around. Also consider a small two tier cake to you have the top layer for your first anniversary and the other layer for the photographer's shot of the both of you cutting the cake and feeding it to your husband.

I think it is a cute idea as well. In the end you need to do what you think is best for your wedding. If you spend the money to make them look good they will be gorgeous. My cousin and his wife did them for the wedding cake and then had them centered around an actual cake top, it was beautiful. We then had a cute piece of cake to take home with us that was easy to carry..lol.

I had some amazing funky cupcakes, topped with a 7 inch cutting cake, it looked fantastic and all the guests commented on them. I can email you a picture if you care to see what it looked like, I am unable to post one here.

This is the bakery where I got my cakes from, they were done in blue and cream rather than this pink and we had them stacked on a cake stand, it was very memorable:

Love them!! We did cupcakes for our wedding cake, so I don't think it's "wrong" or "cheap" at all... especially if you're forking out the $ to do them properly with all the gorgeous decoration and frosting.

Perhaps have a small cake for you and the groom to do the traditional cake cutting ceremony. People really enjoy that tradition.
