The CT tax people have your W2 (thats why you got the letter) and they would have factored in any state witholding. Ask them for the details of the calculations they did, just to make sure. It is not necessary to prepare a return at this time, since they have essentially done that for you.

Just to correct the other poster.....There usually isn't statute of limitations on an unfiled return. They can pursue this.

Somehow, you are going to have to get a copy of the W2 from 1999. If you have no way to contact the employer, the state will probably give you a transcript of the information that they have. Use this information to get the return filed ASAP.

Since you filed federal, contact the IRS and ask for a copy of the W-2 copy that was attached to your federal return.

It doesn't matter if it's 25 years...........there is no statute of limatations on tax evasion. Call your employer at the time of employment ( 1999 w-2) Get it straightened out or they will freeze you bank account, take money out of you wages, etc.
Set up a payment plan with them and you should be alright.
Don;t ignore them.

you can only go seven years back when doing your taxes.. so I wouldn't worry about it...unless u owe money... You could try and call the company u were working for.. or sometimes the government will get it for you..
