Actually neither Sunni nor Shi'a were the first.

So more like "Church of England to Calvinist"
One political, one theological but both reformation.

The Sunnis arose as a counterreaction in the 10th century to the rationalist movement on which to view the Qu'ran.

The Shite originated not so much as a religous movement but a political one in the bitter 7th century disputes over succession to Islamic state leadership.

NO.

Protestants usually believe the true Gospel. Catholics don't.

Catholics believe a false gospel of works that leads to eternal hell. Catholics are not saved and are not Christians.

More like "Lutheran is to Methodist."

But the differences seem enough to kill each other over.
