Regarding Henry VIII he was an upstanding catholic and was so abhored by the heresy of Martin Luther he wrote a book in defense of the 7 sacraments. He was dubbed defender of the sacraments by Rome.
However only to fall out of favour with Rome himself over an annulment of his marriage.Which led to the unlawful execution of his close friend lord chancellor of England Thomas Moore who was in opposition to his divorce later to be cannonized a saint[St.Thomas Moore].
So he favoured to escape punishment of God ideologize a theory that he is still in goodstanding with the Catholic Church but he is the head of the Catholic Church in England hence church of England[a schism] later to change certain dogmas to private interpretation[heresy].
Even today high anglicans still use latin in their liturgy and have kept much of the feast days of the catholic saints ?

God bless,

JMJ

For me he was bit of a bully and if he did not get what he wanted he would through his toys out of his throne.
