When you didn't ship you were dropped from DEP. You should have received a letter stating that you were no longer in DEP. You do not get a discharge because you were never on active duty.

Just be sure to tell the next recruiter you talk with that you were in DEP before and dropped out. They might need to get a waiver for you to go back to MEPS and they might limit your choices because you demonstrated unreliability previously while in DEP.

If you were in a DEP and dropped out it will probably be VERY hard for you to get into another service, if they'll take you at all (although I'm sure that right now with the war the Army and Marines would take you anyway). What service are you in a DEP for? If its not the Air Force, and you want to join the Air Force, forget it. if you've ever been enlisted in another service they won't take you. We're kind of snotty that way. Besides you haven't even shipped out yet how do you know its not working out? If another service does decide to take you in, it will be on THEIR terms since you backed out of your last commitment. And let's face it you don't want that.

you need to tell your recruiter yo want out of your obligation. he HAS to give it to you, even if if he gives you a LOT of grief over it, tries to threatent you, etc.

that being said. NO other branch can legally talk to you while you are still in DEP, AND they will count the fact that you left DEP once already against you. They will think: he bailed once before, will he bail on us, too?

and depending on which branch you want to really get in to, it may be a waste of time. the AF almost certainly will not be willing to go through the extra work required to get a waiver for the DEP discharge.

DEP is the delayed entry program. When I was first on it, I failed a piss test and got discharged. I got orders and everything assigning me back to my house. It is just pretty much letting you know that you are no longer in the DEP. You have no military affiliation besides the fact that the recruiter knows your name. You will have to swear in again and do alot of things you have already done over.

If you are officially in the DEP on your ship date, then you either go to boot camp or miss a movement.

Who told you that you don't have to ship to boot camp?

What makes you think that another service will be different?

Doesn't work like that. You can't just back out of a contract with one service and join another. Plus if you haven't shipped why don't you think it will work? You haven't done anything yet. Once you go to boot you'll probably never see any of those people again anyway.
