Is it the person who has just placed their shopping on the belt or the next person in the queue waiting to place their shopping on the conveyer belt?

If the person in front of me has not put the separator down, I will, and I will put one after my items. It is easier just to do it myself than to expect another person to do it for me. If there is not a separator available, I leave some space between my items and those in front of me so the cashier will know.

I don't think there is a right way or a wrong way, is there?

Though for what it's worth, I'll always grab the separator after my stuff is on the conveyor and put it down for the next person. That just seems like the polite thing to do.

Who actually cares If I'm shopping and the person before me puts it on I might pretend to be disappointed that they are not paying for mine as well. If I put it on on the lines of, I don't think you want to pay for mine. Boring I know but it does pass the time in the queue and often if we are in a queue we can then talk about other things like the weather and holidays

Supermarket etiquette suggests that the person who has just put their shopping on the belt should place the divider on the belt. Chris Waddle was once behind me in Tesco, and he loaded all his shopping on the belt before I had finished.

I always place the seperator for the next customer after me... Just to make it easier for them really. Sometimes they may have to stretch etc to get to it, or end up waiting when there's plenty of room on the conveyor belt but no seperator. So I do it basically to avoid this annoyance for others.

I think of it as being thoughtful, courteous if you will. It doesn't hurt to do it, and its not difficult right? So why not. Think of it as your kinda good deed for the day, making someone else's life just that tiny bit easier!

It's funny... when I was in Germany I found that, even though stores had dividers, nobody used them at all. They just left a little space and if anything was in question, the cashier asked. Here, I usually put it after my own if there is somebody behind me, especially if there aren't very many of them and they are hard to reach from the back of the line.

I say the person who has just placed their shopping on the belt. Lets the person behind know there's nothing else coming.

I don't think you have to put it there for the next person. I always do it myself when the person in front has finished putting their shopping on. Sometimes if I can't reach it, I just leave a big space then starting putting my things on.

It is polite for the person who has just placed their groceries to place the separator after their order. This way the next person in line does not have to reach over to get it.

I've always thought it was the person next in line. That's how I do it. So that way the cashier won't start ringing my stuff up with the first person's. But in some cases, the first person has handed me the divider. Either way it works.
