The "OFFICIAL" reason is WMD and Terrorism. The hidden agenda - oil.
Bush is an oil man - and Halliburton is his oil company. Who is controlling the oil now? EH?
When it comes to Bin Laden - Bush Been Loafin'. As I recall, it wasn't Iraq that blew up the World Trade Center Buildings - so it stands to reason that the only reason we are there is to get oil.
Bush and the oil companies don't want us depending on renewable energy sources. But since it appears we are headed that way, the oil companies want to milk us for all they can get before they go extinct.
Until then, the world is not safe.

What we're trying to accomplish -right now- is just to keep the war going. Everyone sees that the war has failed, we don't have the force needed to stabilize the country and we've lost our chance. President Bush can't admit failure, for reasons both personal and political. His only strategy is to keep the war going until either the Democratic Congress takes it out of his hands or until the next president does. Then Republicans will say for years and years that we were really winning the war and the Democrats made us lose.
What the war was for originally, though, is a lot more. Being a 'war president' allowed Bush to play fast and loose with the rules. He could greatly increase govt. spending, shoveling taxpayer money to his friends and big contributors and well-connected corporations like Halliburton. He could authorize wiretapping and arrest people off the street for no reason and without constitutional protections. He could suspend habeas corpus and any number of other 'emergency' measures as he saw fit! And he could bully the opposition and the media into going along because anyone who criticized him could be bashed as a traitor.
And anyone, on either side of the political gulf, would have to admit that without the Iraq war, President Bush wouldn't have had a chance of a second term!

....Briefly....There are two goals....FIRST to provide a stable pro-west or neutral government in Iraq to provide balance and prevent Armageddon........SECOND Put anti-American terrorists and their supporters that there is no more free lunch.... if they attack us we will hit back.
Since the Vietnam debacle America has been given the reputation of being a toothless tiger.....
12 American were held hostage/ murdered in the the Middle East....we did nothing
Klinghoffer in his wheel chair was pushed off the Aquila Laural Ship....we did nothing
Two hundred plus Marines were murdered in their beds....we did nothing...
Our Embassy's were bombed ....we did nothing
The Twin Towers were car bombed....we did nothing
Iranian radicals invaded America taking hostages....we did nothing
fourteen sailors died as our Naval vassel was bombed.....we did nothing
A commercial airliner was blown out of the Lockerbee Skies....we did nothing
I could go on but you get the message..... WE HAD TO STAND UP and say STOP.
Since we have invaded Iraq.....terrorist attacks against America have halted....none in 5 years....when before we averaged one a month before the invasion
