i have lost the activation key for windows xp home edition.
i have a hp computer but i got a dell reinstallation disk from my old computer my hard drived crashed and i had to get a new hard drive. when i installed the windows xp home you need a activation key but i lost it. what should i do i have tried everything i have called dell and hp and microsoft. i dont have the money to buy a new program need help bad dont know what to do can any one help me i cant call dell because they ask for my sevice tag but i got rid of my dell computer so that dosent work.hp wont help me. and the magic bean key finder dosent not ether. what sould i do help plez any way to find it on the cd or somthing.

You must use the HP Recovery disks, if included with your PC to avoid driver problems, not a store-bought XP disk. NOT Dell disks either.

The Recovery disks may be ON the hard drive, so Read The Friendly Manual (RTFM) FIRST to find out how to make your own Recovery disks, if you haven't already formatted your hard drive.

If so, call HP to get replacement Recovery disks ($).

the only thing i can suggest is using a proper copy. the version that you have installed is a dell copy yes, you will need a hp xp key and activation.

unless you are able to download a HP OEM version, this should work.
