If God would have allowed humans to eat the tree of life, they would have lived forever in a cursed body that would deteriorate as time passed, could you imagine a 6,000 year old human??

Your question says why did He prevent- I assume that was a typo and you meant why "didn't"- am I right. God did and does want us all to live forever and ever and He never wanted sin to enter the world- but as you may already know- Satan was originally an angel and he challenged God and was sent to earth to live as the lowest creature of all- a serpent. God placed the tree in the Garden of Eden as an act of providing man free will.
Think of this, if the tree was not there- then you would be asking- why did we never have any choice but to live here- the tree was that choice and the serpent was the temptress- if you will- Just like a child when they are told they can go anywhere they want (just as an example) in the neighborhood- just not on the train tracks- because the parents know better than the child and what danger lies ahead.
Like Adam and Eve, children have free will- and here comes the adventurous boy in the group and says- oh your parents are just saying that so you won't have any fun, they know how cool the train tracks are and etc. etc- of course if you want the outcome of the story to be like Adam and Eve a child gets hit by a train because they refused to listen to wisdom and listened to foolishness and lies- even after being warned of the consequences.
I hope I answered your question, Without freewill, we would be like mindless robots and God knew that he had to let us have the choice- if Adam and Eve didn't eat off the tree some other fool would have- that's the trap of temptation and there is nothing wrong w/ being tempted- it's what you do with it. You are faced with big and little temptations daily, should I gossip, or keep this to myself, or maybe it's something bigger like drugs for some people- sexual sin for others. This is why we are constantly choosing paths for our lives and it all started with the tree. But don't despair- that is why Jesus came again- so we would have a chance to choose Him and spend life in eternity after we die. Hope this helped a little- anymore questions- feel free to email me- Erica

God created all men to live forever. That was His original design but He gave man a choice. "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die." (Genesis 2:16)
Think about all the bad things in this world. All the hunger, pain, war, and awful things. Imagine if you had to live in that world forever. There was nothing you could do to get away from the heart ache and pain. You were suck here in this fallen world for all of eternity. How does that make you feel? That thought scares me to death. I know this is going to sound wrong but I don't mean it in a bad way. I'm glad I'm going to die. Like I said, don't get me wrong, I'm not looking forward to it, I'm just glad that there's an end to the pain and suffering. I believe that when man sinned God knew what the world was going to turn into and decided to let us die. Does this make sense? I hope so.

King James Bible Genesis 3:22
And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
he does just in the Kingdom of Heaven. not in the mortal world.

No, God does not want everyone to live forever in mortality. That's the whole point of why Jesus suffered for all mankind's sins and overcame physical death through the resurrection. I certainly wouldn't want to be stuck with an imperfect, frail, mortal body throughout all eternity. :-)

It was a question of obedience... trusted with a little ... trusted with a lot. they would have lived forever anyway before hand! They had not sinned so it was not a problem!
They would have understood later if they had obeyed

He gave them free will.. A choice between right and wrong... The decided to do wrong..... They were perfect when the decided to do wrong.. They knew better....Jehovah gave them free will because he didn't want robots... So that is how we are where we are today.... Thankfully Jehovah has made provisions for us so that we may still have everlasting life.
