What ever happened to Christ's commandment
John 13:34, 35
"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

They are his words not mine. Why is it so hard for us all to see the fallacy in trying to use the Bible as an excuse for hate? No excuses................sorry!

sadly, yes, many have totally missed the simplicity of his message, they want to make it into something that it's not, they try to complicate it until they don't want anything to do with it. i pray for those who choose to ignore it or just haven't really tried to understand it. for they are lost on a dark and dangerous road. god bless.

There is a large fundamentalist contingent in some churches that take seriously the idea that the whole Bible is literally true.

Christianity was always, in reality, about Christ -- about loving Christ and about loving one another. It was about Christ's atoning death and his sacrifice for all mankind. Then it was about (liturgically) Eucharist, and (functionally) caring about and taking care of one another.

This is a frightening concept for fundamentalists in general. They support "the fundamentals of the faith" and the first of those is Biblical infallibility. To fundamentalists the provable fact that Christianity predated the canon of the Bible by almost 400 years means almost nothing. The fact that there are no autographs of the Bible means less and that the early fragments we have contradict each other in hundreds of thousands of places even less (see Dr. Bart Ehrman; Misquoting Jesus: The Story Behind Who Changed the Bible and Why; Harper). The fact that the oldest fragments of anything to do with the faith that we have found by 40 years are fragments of the Eucharistic prayer -- NOT fragments of any book of the Bible means nothing at all. Because the idea that the Bible is infallible is so important to them, they sacrifice things like loving one another and the whole message of Jesus Christ, in exchange for a much different, much more legalistic message not far from the message offered by fundamentalist Islam.

It is not a message that many of us find attractive, but it is the one that is peddled, and it appeals to those who seek other authorities to run their lives. Some researchers even think that it triggers the same chemical releases in the body that are triggered by drugs (see Arterburn and Felton; Toxic Faith; Oliver Nelson Press for somewhat dated details on some of this).

We can only hope, pray, and work individually to help others escape what (many of us see as) Biblio-idolatry and return to a productive, loving version of the Faith.

Kind regards,

Reyn

so everyone is saying that we christians never love and we're the most evil people on earth and we don't follow our Bible at all...well, obviously anyone who has read the Bible would know that it says "there is none good, no not one." no one is perfect no one can ever be perfect. if we were perfect Christ wouldn't have died on the cross. the Bible also says "that our righteousness is like filthy rags" no matter what good we do we still won't measure up to God. maybe, some do the miss the message yet others try hard to practice love but it is difficult. I struggle with love everyday I had a best friend a few years ago who decided one day she didn't want to talk to me anymore so I tried apologizing (even though I didn't do anything) and her boyfriend who I met once and it was more like just hi I'm holly suddenly knew everything about me like really personal stuff it turns out she didn't want to be my friend b/c she didn't like one of my other friends(who was nice to her) so it's really hard not to say mean stuff about her and I still do it sometimes but that really hurt my feelings how someone so close was just like I dont want to talk to you anymore so love is a hard thing to practice no one will ever be perfect so no one needs to get so upset about it.

It's not so much that ppl have missed the point as it is that ppl just don't care. It can be an ugly world out there. God gave us choices and a good portion of the world make the wrong choice. The only things we can do is to continue to live by the word (since it's our road map in life). Continue to share the word (even with those who are less receptive). Continue to pray. Pray those who believe. Pray for those who don't. Pray for enlightenment. Keep in mind that on judgement day, it will be you and you alone, who will be standing before God.

YES, people miss the point!!
HIS message was the GLAD TIDINGS OF THE KINGDOM, a message many know nothing of, and many others misunderstand.
Mat 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Mat 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

The Messiah said NOT TO THINK HE CAME TO BRING PEACE, but many do. The 'gospel' or GLAD TIDINGS of the Kingdom are about the DOMINION mandate given to Adam and Yahshua eventual bringing it forth in full fruition where he will sit upon the throne of David, which never came to an end and is still on the earth TODAY with a descendant of David sitting on said throne. AS PROMISED. WE are at WAR, not peace. We are to LOVE those the Father has given him out of the world as well.

I believe that people in general miss a lot of things. Christ's message of love and understanding is still heeded, however to what extent varies from Christian to Christian. Even Christ became angered upon the defilement of the Lord's temple on the Sabbath, would he be angered today by abortion, the current war on Christians and family values, homosexuality, adultery, islamic terrorist? I believe that he would not approve of these things, but still love them. Christians while follows of Christ are still human, and are susceptible to intolerance. I try to see others point of view, but when families are destoyed by the items above, it is difficult to be forgiving sometimes, case point 9-11.

It's not a natural or human thing for people to love one another. Even in families there is friction and tension. Why do you think we have wars all the time? I think your message is lovely and totally unrealistic. Wouldn't it be nice if we could all love one another. Wouldn't it be nice if I could eat pizza every day and never gain weight? It's not that people miss the point, they just can't make it happen.

Yes . Love conquers all . Christians just think it is a saying sometimes.Christians think God came to judge the world but it says that Jesus came to save the world with His love and that His love dwells in the believer and it will flow out of our bellies like rivers of living water to the world. I pray that God's love will flow out of my belly like rivers of living waters ,it is the prayer that makes it happen not because I am so good ,I am not it is God that makes us good. Sometimes people cannot find there way to forgiveness and love even when they try but all it takes is praying by faith and not going according to your emotions. It takes saying God I forgive them as many times as the problem arises in the mind and then saying forgive me God and let your love flow through me. Help me God. the more you do this the more Love and thankfulness you see in your life. Everyday is a battle though and we have to put on the Armour and stand up against the evil one.

Jesus took the Bible actually too. Jesus believed that Adam and Eve have been genuine human beings. there is not any reason to no longer take the Bible actually. there's a literal heaven and hell. a thank you to be stored and comprehend God is to repent and obtain Jesus as your Savior and Lord, and he will avert thru His grace on my own.
