If you had a dental expander AND you are over 40 did you need surgery to break palate first ?

I am being treated for TMJ problems and am moving to Phase 2 of treatment after wearing splints for 3 months. Need an expander in my upper jaw before braces. Will my palate bone need to get broken first ?

I already have been wearing a splint. daytime and a nighttime one. so braces are the next step in the treatment plan because i need a permanent solution and can't get weaned off the splints nor build up my teeth so braces is the best solution. BUt before I get them i need an expander and because of my age-42 I thought i would have to consider surgery to break the bone in my upper palate.

THE BEST WAY TO TREAT TMJ PROBLEMS IS WITH AN N.T.I. BRUXUSM APPLIANCE, SEE BELOW. NO BREAKING OF JAW IS NEEDED FOR IT.
