Some folks thought that -- since the wages of sin is death, and Mary (in order to give birth to a sinless child) had never sinned herself, it wouldn't have made sense for her to die like everyone else. Hence the ad hoc (that's "pulled out of their @ss", for those of you in Rio Linda) argument that she must have ascended bodily to heaven, instead...

Mary was "assumed" (body & soul) into Heaven. Look up the Assumption.
