Why are there so many people who use incorrect grammar and do not know how to spell?
It's very rare that I see people use even these (simple) words properly:
to, too
your, you're
they're, their, there

and it seems no one ever spells definitely right- it's always definately

Those are just a few of the many things that I always notice. It seems no one cares if they appear uneducated, or maybe it's just because of that reason? Even so, with the internet now (if you are on Y!A, you obviously have access to it) and things like spellcheck, you can look up anything you need to. If you weren't fortunate enough as some to receive a good education, you have the opportunity to expand your knowledge that way.

Not that everyone should be able to write perfectly all the time, but I am referring to the horrendous spelling and grammar I witness way too often.

Do these people not even realize their errors, or do they just not care?

I believe most people just don't care. Me, I'm pretty literate. Occasionally I'll misspell a few words here and there. But that's on Rare occasions.

Don't forget then and than. I think they don't care. Perhaps spell check is part of the problem, though. Of your complaints, "definately" is the only one that would be caught by spell check.

I ask myself this every time I get on Y!A. Missing or improper punctuation also bothers me to no end.
