willow and genie and others who were brave enough to admit there are major man made influences in the bible we read today. thanks for your bravery. it doesnt mean your faith is wrong or pathetic...you atleast know that the BIBLE itself should be questioned at little ...atleast.

"Yes, God has the "power" to keep his word intact, but he also has the power to stop babies from being raped and people from killing each other too, yet it still happens because He gave us free will and if we screw up its our own fault not His.. You should know that if you read the Bible."

You know what? I can tell you this. I don't care how supposedly "accurate" the bible is, most people miss the point of it anyway. I am Christian and because of my beliefs, I want to make sure I do His service by learning as much history of the bible as I can and I found out what you said about King James and Constantine is very true in High school. The bible has been corrupted and unless God came down here and told you Himself that its all true, we do not have a real way of knowing. It is very disturbing to know that people do not consider this while they are reading it. Yes, God has the "power" to keep his word intact, but he also has the power to stop babies from being raped and people from killing each other too, yet it still happens because He gave us free will and if we screw up its our own fault not His.. You should know that if you read the Bible.
Anyway, people quote, quote and quote and miss the point of what they are reading all the time. They want to be LITERAL when even if every word was true at the time it was written, it is a different world now and must be taken under the consideration of the time it was written in and take into consideration that humans, whether divinely inspired or not, are flawed. If we were not flawed we would not be human. I feel as Christians we should take responsibility for finding the meaning behind the words. God never makes it easy for His followers, He is testing us all the time and by taking the Bible literally, we fail that particular one miserably. He blesses us only when we work for it and have good intentions, and that is not always easy.
And you know, any Christian that tries to debase or judge another Christian because they do not worship exactly the way that they do, should re-read the Gospels and see what Christ (yeah Christ, the guy who's name is the root of the word Christian) has to say about it.

There are a lot of valid concerns about the Bible. The fact that men wrote over a period of many centuries is from the outset troubling; however, the fact that the Bible is written by so many different authors over such a period of time, and is still congruent from front to back is a real testimony to its authenticity.
There are differences in versions of the Bible, and theologians far more educated than me have actually decided what was canonical. But on this point too, Christ revealed through most versions (generally accepted versions NIV, KJV, NASB, Good News Bible) is the same. What is the best version of the Bible?....the one you read.

I don't.
However, this hardly dejstifies the whole thing. The very existence of Christianity indicates the first Christians believed and so the story is true in the main. Additionally, what is more amazing is how remarkably consistent the various epistles and Gospels are. And when I follow the Christian path it does what it says it will do to me.
What if I'm wrong and it's all just BS or those earliest christians were themselves full of it? The 2000 years of conviction, of shapinga nd perfecting the path so that it works for people now has its very own truth and value. And the doctrine itself is regulative the way any community has to contain itself in a way in order to to go on existing.
So, while you have a good point against Protestant Biblical fundamentalists, Roman Catholicism and Anglican theology already allow for this problem.

Some of us are able to compare those works with the Hebrew and Greek, which were written well before Constantine and King James.
The translations are very accurate, until you come to the modern ones (such as NIV, which leaves things out)
What you need to understand is the doctrine of inspiration. These scriptures by their nature are proven inspired of God.
Research the background of the Bible writers, and it will become apparent that there's no way all could agree 100% on God and His doctrines unless they had all been in contact spiritually with ONE Author...God.
One of the ways to know if a work is truly inspired, is to see if anything it contains contradicts doctrine.
God does NOT contradict Himself.

I believe the Bible is truthful, in the sense of God existing, Christ dying on the cross for our sins, etc. But I do believe that humans have changed the meanings since it's been written, and I think the passages have been very much changed but bad-doers. However, no matter what the Bible or humans say, I know God exists.

Simple. The Dead Sea Scrolls give us proof that the Old Testament is very accurate. Write down to each letter. The New Testament is even more reliable due to the 5,000 copies of it written in the first few centuries. I have the complete revelation from God.

Because the Holy Spirit tells me so in my heart as a Christian.
What we have in Scripture today is exactly how God intended it to be.
2 Peter 1:20-21 “Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”
2 Timothy 3:16 “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness”

I believe that the Bible was definetely inspired by God, but it was written down by humans, and humans are fallilble so the Bible is not completely accurate.
I also believe that God is so infinite and vast that no book can possibly contain all that there is to know about him.

I feel that God has let what He wants to be included, be included. If there is anything else we need to know, the Holy Spirit will let us know.
Personally, I have found all the answers I need in the the bible. The only answer anyone needs really is Jesus Christ, He is the answer. And, the bible fully shows Him to me, and what He did for me..

Hold on a second, I have to give the Lion of Judah a thumbs down so I can shrink the page to read the other answers, and the page wouldn't be so long if LOJ would just answer the question instead of cut and pasting their answer.
