Besides high school graduation, you would need college or university in the Criminal Justice program, and legitimate training from the police academy, as well as a Class 2 (that's what they call it in Canada, but Americans may refer to it as something different) driver's license. Oh, and most importantly, you must have a clean criminal record, nothing on the record for which a pardon has not been granted. I don't know what else is needed, but the above mentioned are the must-haves. Good luck.

You can go to college or you can also look around for local depts. hiring. Usually they will put you through training etc. I know it starts with what they call the "40 hour prebasic training" you will also have to go through certifications such as EVOK *really cool driving course where things are thrown in front of you and others cops in the car are yelling at you while you have to radio in stuff* lol and search and seizure. There are a lot of other ones you have to do and then some you can choose to do....such as K9 certification. I know here we have to do some nasty stuff during 40 hr pbt. Such as, being pepper sprayed, tasered, shot with beanbags from shot gun, etc. some even have you being "mock attacked" by the k9 unit. You'll also have to qualify with the shot gun and hand gun . There are some college courses you have to take. I think one was called Public Safety. Not really clear on the names. I hope that helps. Good luck if this is your interest.

Usually no training or anything is required. Typically it is a good record, both legal and driving, good solid history. Take a test and interview like other civil service jobs.
