their jobs, but are always the first ones to call the police for even the smallest problem?

i.e., dog barking, loud music...

I would NEVER want to walk a mile in a cops shoes... it's a scary job. A job only an extremely brave person can do. I'm brave, but not that brave.

Miss M, I feel you. I too get very heated. I take it personally especially when the idiots saying bad things about police know that my boyfriend is a cop.

In my experience, these folks are not "haters" through personal experience, but became haters by reading the media inflated garbage about the small number of police that are lazy/unscrupulous/thieving/murdering/etc.

They watched the edited 15 second clip of an officer choking someone out, not seeing the suspect throwing violent punches and kicks at the officer seconds earlier in the edited clip. They heard a story about their cousin's friends' baby's mama that got her car towed for nothing more than driving on a suspended license. They listen to all these ridiculous urban legends about what their rights are on a traffic stop, but when they try to pull the crap at a real traffic stop they end getting booked for resisting. The reasons go on and on, about why they are haters without cause.

But, when they need some help.....

Johnny won't do his dishes. Maria is refusing to do her homework. Chau won't so his chores. My neighbor parked in front of my house (in a totally legal spot for anyone to park).

These people are cowards. The police are such an under rated profession and unappreciated. As you pointed out, they are the first ones people call when they need help, but easy to blame. I think these people have personal issues with themselves. Cops sometimes screw up and make mistakes, but I bet a very small percentage of them mean to do wrong. If you and I screw up in our jobs, we might get our boss saying something to us. With a cop, they go in front of Internal Affairs and may loose their job. I suggest that people try walking a mile in a cops shoes and see what it is like. I bet they could not cut it.

Good question.

I can answer the first part. SOME (and I stress SOME, not ALL) police officers are only in it because they crave authority and want to prove some things to the rest of the city/world. They do this by playing the race card, arresting and/or harassing any person of color for even the littlest thing like jaywalking. They also do this by targeting any youth they think is doing suspicious activity. These are the cops I don't respect, and thank God there's only a small percentage of them. However, they tend to make the rest of the officers look bad, and shamefully, this is what makes the job so thankless. Maybe if these good cops can teach the authority-hungry ones not to have such "holier-than-thou" attitudes, this profession would gain more respect. Lord knows I wouldn't stand for that bull.

Good question, and I agree. Ppl are so quick to put them down, but who will they call when nobody else is there to get their butt's out of trouble/harm's way. I understand there are some crooked cops out there. But MOST of them are good ppl that risk their life EVERYTIME they go to work. Why? So those same ppl bad mouthing them can sleep at night without having their live's put in jeopardy. As you can tell I get heated about this topic. I'd like to see those ppl offer this country and their community that same sacrifice. Sadly, they'd NEVER do it because they're too busy running their mouths about others instead of looking at their own shortcomings.

I agree it's unfair to tar them all with the same brush. Maybe those that put them down so much should be invited to go along with a patrol for one Friday or Saturday late evening shift and just see for themselves what the police have to put up with? If that doesn't change their minds, I doubt anything will.

i feel the cops abuse their authority sometimes to feel superior, like they can get away with more. yes, they are the people we turn to and look towards to for protection but the justice system has its flaws.

officers should be understanding and look at the big picture instead of always picking at the small things. its a love hate kind of feeling.

I agree. People all hate the cops till they need help, then its pick up the phone and call us. Even though people get themselves into most situations around here. its fustrating, but its what we get paid for. And as for curruption, stop watching so much tv.

Children in adult bodies. They aren't happy if they don't complain about something or someone and the police always seem to be in their "line of fire" (excuse the pun :)
