Live in huge enormous houses and drive big fancy cars that pollute and consume more energy in two months than the average American does in a year. I just find it hard to fathom that someone like Al Gore who pushes these strong ideas about AGW, pollutes and uses up so much energy that really is not necessary.

Dana: I obsess about Gore b/c he's the biggest pusher of AGW. Bush just believes so he doesn't have to hear about it and it's the last thing on his mind. The other republicans you mentioned believe for the vote!!

Seems hypocritical, doesn't it? He claims that since he donates lots of money to environmental causes, like planting trees, that he has offset his pollution. Yeah, RIGHT! It is like killing some person and then paying money to the relatives to "offset" the murder.

Ben O - You've never said anything as wrong as this:

"the price of oil might come back down by then (10-20 years)"

Do you think all those formerly poor people in China and India buying cars are going to stop? Or that those countries (and more) are going to stop developing their industry? Do you think they're going to miraculously find vast new deposits of oil? Do you think they haven't been looking hard for many years? Do you think the Saudi oilfields are inexhaustible?

Long term the price of oil is going nowhere but up. In 10-20 years it will surely be over $150/barrel.

Nations that prepare for that will be much better off. Nations that develop the technology to deal with it will become rich.

Answering the question how big politicians live has absolutely nothing to do with the scientific proog that global warming is real, and mostly caused by us.

It would be nice if they set a better example. It would also be nice if all professional sports stars set a good example for children. Think that's going to happen?

That's politics.

A lot of politicians act passionate about sustainability, but they don't talk much about the details. It seems that they plan on making some small sustainability initiatives now and watching what develops over the next 10 to 20 years before committing to too much. By then, we will have a much better idea about what we are dealing with and how best to deal with it, after all, it's possible that climate change is a lot less serious than many are predicting and the price of oil might come back down by then.

This is a super short answer, but there's only one thing to it: Because AGW is NOTHING BUT A POLITICAL AGENDA. That's why.

Politicians love power and money. Global warming gives them both.

What better issue could politicians have? Look at the emotion attached to scenes with polar bears, and remember, what we do, we do for the .... children!

Why are you obsessing about Gore? Why not Gingrich or Bush or Giuliani or Romney or Huckabee or Brownback? They all "support" AGW and live in huge enormous houses and drive big fancy cars that pollute and consume tons of energy too.

At least Al Gore makes sure that the energy he consumes comes from renewable resources. He also buys carbon offsets so his footprint is zero. That's a start.
