Sore throats are not considered an infectious disease. Hot saltwater gargles really can help with pain relief. Using anesthetic throat sprays and lozenges can help. Drinking cold or hot beverages can help. Tylenol, naproxen or ibuprofen can also help with pain relief. If the sore throat is due to postnasal drip, antihistamines and decongestants will help. These all help if the source of the pain is simple inflammation or irritation. They won't, however, cure an infection if that is what the problem is.

Yes, gargle with warm salt water every two hours. You don't always have a fever with strep, tonsillitis or pharyngitis. I had pharyngitis so bad one year, I just wanted to run into the wall and knock myself out. I had to lift my head off the pillow to swallow. I didn't have a fever so the doctors wouldn't give me an antibiotic until it got to that point. Make an appointment with your doctor ASAP. Good Luck!

tcp in warm water to gargle with is good has it numbs the pain also if it is hard to swallow food and your tonsils are red with white spots then it is more than likely you have a infection like tonsillitis

there's a really nasty virus going around right now that mimics strep. it doesn't have the fever though. me and my girls are suffering with it now. if there is pus in the back of your throat, chances are it may be strep. you'll have to get a throat swab to check for sure.

the best way we've found is hot tea. just plain sweet tea, hot.

good luck.
