Every week I ask young men with decals on their vehicle to join the Marines or Army. (Decal will read "I support the troops") They always look at me as if they are drinking lemon juice. Can I change their mind?

Not the old Lemon Juice line again :-(

You are running out of steam old Troll,

your questions are all starting to look the same.

Sure, offer to join up as a good example, I am certain there are hundreds who would love to help your sad ** * ** through boot-camp and on the big-bird to Iraq.

Are you a recruiter? Maybe they feel they support the troops but are unable to do what the troops are doing. I have been to Iraq and am still in the military and I'm proud to still be in Heck every time I go home on leave I either convince someone to join or gt someone thinking about it, but not everyone is cut out for the military life.

lot of reasons people do or do not join the military. Biggest deal is only 3 of 10 people of military age in the US are qualified to join - and it's only rises as high as 3 cause people lie about medical histories. Of that 3, the majority choose college or better paying jobs. Of the 1 left, 90% choose not to come in for any number of personal reasons.

What you're left with is 1% of 1%. Some come in for out of patriotism, some for benefits (bonus, education, job training), and some come in out of desperation in their civilian lives. Of that one tenth of one percent, the great majority make it through training & satisfactorily complete their first enlistment. However, an unfortunately high number do not for all the wrong reasons.

Civilians don't understand the military. They don't understand what it's like being in, what we're about, our culture, our duty, any of that stuff. They just don't get it & can't be made to without feeling the weight of our burden. I don't think it's possible for them to really support us without first. understanding that. They can blindly say they support the troops w/o knowing what the hell they are talking about - which is how you get people saying they support the troops but not what they're doing - but they can't really ever actually support us without understanding us.

You ask some convoluted kid that thinks he's a patriot to join? Okay, yeah I can see where it's fun to put them on the spot & make them question what they think they believe, but why would you really think they'd make the connection to coming in the military?

As an old veteran, it's something I've noticed, allot of the people who are for the war, have never been in the military and even the people who started the Iraq war were draft dodgers with no children in the current military. And all those rabidly pro war news reporters would love to see them all embedded with our troops to report all the wonderful progress.

Been there -done that. I still support the troops.
The military won't take me 'cause I'm over 50, even though I can pass the fitness test to the 18 yr olds standards.
You, however, probably say you support the US......what have YOU done for the country?

first of all support our troops means support our troops. You were just being a jerk. Second of all, always, is always bs.
Third of all have a little respect for those that risk their lives so you can waste your mindwith these posts.

Since your arguments, or rants, are based on the moral high road, shouldn't you stop lying so much?

If you aren't proud of your own service, I don't think you are even giving a good view of the military to begin with.

War is only fun when you can get some other poor suckers to do your fighting for you. And pass the costs on to future generations.
