It depends what kind of ticket, and where you are from...

From London (UK) or Vancouver (Canada), cheapest avalable is with Oasis HK Airlines. With a little luck, you can snatch a one-way fare for under $200.

it depends on where you depart and when you want to go. i only know a few cities where i used to live, and hopefully, you can ahve a idea on it.

on X'mas time, it is high season, return ticket
from chicago (ORD): USD 1800, 14 hours direct flight only United airline have direct flight to hong kong. there is some other options to transit in Korea or Japan, but i think it wastes my time and energy.
from NYC: USD 2000. 16 hours direct flight, you can choose to leave in Jersery from Contential airline, and much more choices in NYC. and you need to look around it.

from Melbourne: AUD 2000, 9 hours direct flight. mostly Qantas, because there is a direct flight depart at night, and it's much easier. check the travel agency in china town, they have better deal.

It makes a big different from where you from, and what time you want to go, and if you perfer a certain Airline.

2 weeks ago from NYC (JFK) to HKG is 910 for Asian.

You can check with your local agent in Chinatown. They usually have the best price.
