im just looking to find the date of my shotgun. my serial number is 1588988. i found it on the bottom side of the gun in front of the trigger guard. any help would be appreciated.

A place thats really good for this is the winchester gallery in Fort Worth, Tx. Call them with the serial number and they can give you the year of manufacture.

Approximately June 16, 1956, assuming the records that were kept were accurate regarding the serial numbers. You lucky devil, a classic Model 12 and probably a good shooter too if it has been kept clean and oiled properly.
