the serving amount is only one candy apple and it says it only has 4 grams of sugar in it. The candy apple mix makes only 12 apples. How is that possible if it says to add 2.5 cups of sugar??????????

Ok, you already know the answer to this, right??? Two and a half cups of sugar will allow the entire recipe to set up and make the candy shell necessary for candied apples. Since you have 12 apples to divide it by, I suspect that the candy shell will be less than 1/8th of an inch thick on each and that you'll have some left at the bottom of the pan too! Consult with your math teacher if necessary!

It is likely that you will have left over "candy" due to the process in the recipe, maybe only 4 grams of sugar actually ends up on the apple.
