If you've had your wisdom teeth taken out and you had braces, does the same insurance that covers braces cover the wisdom teeth extraction?

It varies. I'm not from NY so I don't know what Dentists there charge. And alot of it depends whether the teeth are under the gumline or have already erupted. If they are under the gumline completely, you're talking oral surgery. It takes longer to cut them out and they put stitches in sometimes. The cost of that without insurance could run between 1,600 to 2,400. If your teeth have already come up from the gumline, it's easier to get them extracted. The cost for this would be less because it's easier on the Dentist or oral surgeon to get them out. It could drop the price by half or more. Your best bet is to just call different Dentists and ask, they could give you an estimate. Good luck.

In some cases the patients health/medical insurance will cover the oral surgery. Ask your dentist or the oral surgeons office for a pre-determination from your health insurance or dental insurance, also ask for an estimate of what your out of pocket expenses. This way there will be no surprises when it comes time to pay the bill.

It will also depend on your dental insurance policy; some have no coverage for orthodontic treatment. Look closely at your policy and your annual limitations; some people just take it for granted that they are covered for anything and any amount.
