You should not think in terms of "Catholic and Protestant".

Not all Protestants are the same just as not all Catholics believe the same thing. Some Catholics believe the Pope, some think of him like a Santa Clause-like guy. Likewise, there are protestants who fully trust the Bible and there are those who don't.

These are the most trustworthy types of protestants:

Sovereign Grace Baptists

General Baptists

Reformed Baptists

Reformed Presbyterians

Orthodox Presbyterians

Conservative Grace Brethren Churches, International

Calvary Chapel (their head leader has a stupid belief in that he is unwilling to have this denomination be as specific in their belief as possible about how God saves because he is afraid of dividing people, however that's bad thinking because the Bible says not to join with false Christians, and if you avoid being specific there is the danger of fake Christians joining your church and messing things up by teaching false teachings that can lead to misleading people from becoming Christians or from deciding to leave Christianity).

Church of the Brethren (they have a silly and harmful belief however in not making creeds, which is stupid because then it makes it harder to summarize what they believe, they are like the Calvary Chapel denomination almost)

There are other similar trustworthy churches.

A good Christian is one that loves the God of the Bible for who he is and obeys his laws as best they can. You can know if you love God because you will feel the desire to make him happy his way and you will understand how to be saved. So it is based on what you know and understand and how you feel about it what you know and understand. You know if you hate God if you think his word is NOT fully trustworthy (the translations don't count), specifically, not trustworthy enough to live a life that you can be sure is pleasing God. So if you hate God, your attitude will always be one of making excuses for hating him because you think no one can be truly sure what God wants or even if he exists. A Christian who hates God also enjoys running away from Christians who love to obey God and some evil ones love to argue with and cause pain to Christians who love to obey God.

To be more obedient, learn and understand God's word by reading it, listening to Christians teach what it says (not just any Christian but ones who make sense) and by praying to God to understand what he is saying, and not with the attitude of "I hope this is what you mean" but "what do you really mean?" and being intent on loving what it is he teaches no matter what. You should also pray not to hate God for what he teaches but to love him for it. The moment you feel hate tell God to make it go away.

There are also helpful tools to help you study the Bible more easily. Here is a start:

http://www.e-sword.net (a free bible searching program)
http://www.e-sword.net/files/bibles/esv.exe (a good bible version)
http://www.e-sword.net/files/bibles/litv.exe (another good bible version)

I also recommend you buy this excellent bible dictionary:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FSmiths-Bible-Dictionary-Definitions-Illustrations%2Fdp%2F0785252010%3Fie%3DUTF8%26s%3Dbooks%26qid%3D1194463661%26sr%3D1-1&tag=christianreso-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325

And when you can these more modern dictionaries:

And you are going to encounter what seem to be impossible to solve contradictions in the Bible, but here are some very good books that will help you see that they are not contradictions:

They don't always have the best explanations, but it's good enough. You can always use a search engine to look up a verses or verses and type "contradiction" along with it to see what comes up and often there is a website where someone shows the verses that seem wrong are actually not.

Study the Bible, especially the New Testament

Commit one's life to Christ and live by the grace of the Trinity

Live by grace the 10 Commandments and the Beatitudes

Examine the history and traditions of your particular denomination or tradition(Pentecostal, reformed,Baptist, etc)

Compare your history, customs and beliefs with those of other Protestant denominations (however, there are 30,000+ of them)

Fellowship in prayer, study and charitable deeds with people in your congregation

Pray and read the Bible every day and go to church at least once every Sunday( and midweek would not hurt)
Join the choir or some ministry of your congregation

Get Baptized(if not already) and take Communion often(after examining your conscience and preparing)

I think a good protestant does to others what he would have others do to him in the name and power of Christ and obeys the Commandments.
Some other people think that a good Protestant does nothing and they condemn those who produce good fruit as "works-saved".

I think a bad protestant is bigotedor immoral or hateful towards Non Protestants or to protestants who believe in a different type of Protestantism

Theologically a Good Protestant believes the Creeds and claims doctrine by Bible Alone and salvation by grace alone through faith alone by Christ alone

I'm a Catholic and I am still waiting for my Protestant friends and brethren in Christ to prove the Trinity and most of what they believe by the Bible alone.
I also can't see the doctrine of Bible Alone or Faith Alone being in the Bible.

hmmm..

First off, most "protestants" don't classify or identify themselves as such. It's really a Roman Catholic terminology. Keeps the "us vs. them" barriers up. It's almost a derogatory term, the way some RC's use it.

Second, they are Christians, and the same judgments you would use to determine a "good or bad" Christian applies to them, just as it does with you. Most are devoted to God and identified with Christ through the Holy Spirit. They are not devoted to their religious beliefs, doctrines or traditions

Have you shown love for your brothers and sisters in Christ by some of the questions you have posted lately? If you are really seeking to understand more about "protestants" and their beliefs, please email me. I would be glad to help you.
I also don't condone Catholic bashing either.

ex-Roman Catholic and "heretic",
former agnostic, mystic, Buddhist, and more.
now a "Protestant" and non-denominational Christian.
(If you need the labels... or just "Christian" works for me.)

...first... kick the "good" and "bad" protestant thing to the curb.
Remember who Jesus is... and as you are remembering, remember "He" was and is a Jew... (now, don't get your knickers in a twist but that's the Scriptural Truth)... Jesus never ever spoke about creating a new "religion"... He "is" the "Rock" of our Salvation and He clearly told us that He was the Way, the Truth and the Life...further explaining to us that "no one comes to the Father but by Him"...no one... Meditate deeply on that Spiritual Truth for a moment... What "we" have today are a bazillion "religions" trying to intercede for Christ... it can't be done... There is NO mediator between man and God but Jesus Christ...(He said, not me)... So... the answer is simple... worship God... find a Church that worships God and not following the dogmas, traditions, "religious bondage's" and "spiritual entrapment's" that "man" has set up...(like the "old men of Rome"...just "1" example...there are many more who think "they" intercede for God...it's rubbish)... Jesus clearly said that His "yoke" was light His burden was easy... it's not about the "religions", it's about a relationship with Him.... Read the Book of John to find out who He is and how to worship Him in Spirit and Truth.

A good protestant is someone who is not concerned with protesting but in religion, meaning he is content with a personal and harmonious relationship with God and not with arguments.

A Protestant shouldn't be devoted to their "religion." They should be devoted to Jesus Christ. You can be devoted to Him just as anyone is devoted to whomever they love. It is no different with Christ. You do things and live to please Him. That's what it's all about.

Christianity is not about following rules, contrary to the opinion of many. It is about building a relationship with the One who loves us enough that He died a substitutionary death on our behalf for our sins. All He wants in return is our gratitude and love. It's the least we can do.
