Gift cards are a lame cop out for a gift in a situation like this. Put some thought into it! Make her a "themed gift" For instance, she likes cookings & cook books. Get her an inexpensive cookie cookbook, some gourmet indgrediants, some nicer utensils, a cookie jar, over mits, an apron, anything to do with baking. You could get really creative and do a french baking gift. Go to places like harry & David, le gourmet chef, even target has some nice quality baking items. You can even make the box part of the gift- use a baking pan as the basket and uses that colored plastic wrap to keep it all together.

You can do a very nice gift bag for this person.
In the bag, you can add the colorful socks- does she like the house socks (bed socks)? These are fuzzy and warm and keep your feet warm in cold weather. Also, in the bag, you can add some cookies- homemade or some from a bakery- put them in a nice cellophane bag with a ribbon. Cookbooks are a-plenty in most bookstores especially during the holidays. They can be pricey! Check the paperback versions- maybe some dealing with quick cooking (Rachel Ray) or some with comfort foods.
Paris? Hmmm..... Do you have a Burlington Coat Factory store near you? I have seen some decorator boxes with Parisian themes on them (Eiffel Tower, cafes, etc) in the stores. If you find a box like that, you can put all the goodies inside it and tie it up with a nice ribbon. You may be able to find some on the Internet if you have time. I assume you mean Paris, France and NOT Paris Hilton????

Gift certificate to Target or Walmart or a local book store, or the local mall.
Or buy her some colorful socks. Buy her a unique cookbook or a book on parenting.

get her a gift card to "Target" for under $25, make it around $20. Then put the gift card inside a small gift box and put a ribbon on top.
That way she can buy whatever she wants/needs for herself/her home/baby or family.
I have always given gift cards to Target, Walmart, and Olive Garden and the recipients always use them. I am also nosey and keep a record of the phone number and gift card number to keep track of how much the recipients spent *winks*. Of course, I do not use the gift card, just keep a record of it.

Barnes & Nobles or Borders gift card.
That way she can buy a book to read about traveling or cooking.
It's somewhat generic, but gets the job done.
