"Fundie" being a contraction of "fundamentalist", it's used more and more in a derogatory way -- although I would not go so far as to equate it with the bigotry and racism behind the N-word. Still, it tends to marginalize as Schneb pointed out, even though the marginalization in some cases is self-accomplished.
If the purpose of using the name is to poke fun at them or intentionally antagonize, then it could be considered an insult and really should be avoided. But for lack of another well-understood term to categorize the many sects and branches and congregations of Christian fundamentalism in order to ask them a question, it may have to suffice for the time being -- and those on the receiving end should probably develop thicker skins.

Fundie or fundy (plural fundies) is a pejorative slang term used to refer to religious fundamentalists of any faith group, although it is primarily directed towards fundamentalist Christians. The term is intentionally DEROGATORY, and is used most commonly by those opposed to the Christian right movement. The term is often associated with religiously motivated conservative moral beliefs, especially those regarding social issues.
That's why it makes people mad it is intentionally Derogatory!!!!
In etymological terms, fundie is an example of a mutated contraction resulting from relaxed pronunciation, where the original word (in this case Fundamentalist) is shortened and slightly altered. There is no recorded first use of the term, though its appearance in the American English vocabulary coincided with the rise of Christian politics in the 1970s.
The word can be used derogatorily to refer to anyone with a strong outspoken belief in any religion, any cause or any concept. This use is less common.
The term is used liberally in various publications and in common speech. Atheist publications and websites use the term frequently. While fundamentalists object to the term, it is not considered hate speech by the general public.

Bible literalism is a farce. it can't be supported theologically, traditionally, logically, you call it... it rather is a reading performed with blinders willfully placed on. and no person actually reads the Bible actually and follows all of it. you would be locked up quite straight away. The insistence on the assumption is basically a declare to being as infallible because of the fact the e book one claims to worship. Has greater to do with grimy politics than with spirituality, rather.

I am a Catholic, and I never use the term "Bible Fundies." I think the term is derogatory and disrespectful.
I generally go with Bible Fundamentalists. Yes, it is a little bit long to write, but it is not so painful.
I am disappointed that you would use this opportunity to bash our Christian brethren.
Peace be with you.

Because "turn about" is NOT fair play according to them. They can ridicule Catholics and condemn us to Hell all day long and they are seen within their group as not only righteous but real warriors for God. They ignore the Scriptures they so vehemently spout. "with his mouth the Godless destroys his neighbor, but through knowledge the righteous escape"

Actually, "agents of Satan" would be a better description of these fundamentalists. They exist mainly to attack Christ's Church. They are doing the work of Satan whether they are aware of it or not.

You are right. There are self claimed Christians who do not care about the Bible message. They have gone so far as they have made their own Bible

I'm Catholic and I have no clue what a "Bible-fundie" is. So I don't know if and how it is offensive.
