Why are some Mexican women/people so angry about me & Pedro??

Question

On several occasions,Mexican women have asked my boyfriend why is not with a woman from a Spanish-Speaking Counrty/(I can speak a bit Spanish)This is very stupid.All races reside in South &Central America.(My Spanish teacher was a black men from Nicaruaga-Ramon)White Latinos see Tony Orlando,Gloria Estefan,Geraldo Rivera,Thalia Sodi,Shakira,Ricky Martin,Penelope Cruz,ect.Imagine how angry they would be if he brought home a black woman named Juanita from Cuba,Columbia,Panama,ect. Yes there are many black people in South America.I like Mexican men & my boyfriend really likes white women(guerras) he still likes mex women.What is the big deal?We all are all human.My family loves Pedro,yet his uncle continues to treat me sour.The key word here is SOME not all,WHY???P..S All people on Mexican are very white looking.I consider my boyfriend sort of Native American,he is an original Mexican

Jealousy. Basically, in Mexico, white women, especially blonde women, are considered very desirable, in some cases to an obsessive degree. Just look at their pinups, or who they have as TV anchors or actresses. The men are ticked because they are jealous of your bf, the women are ticked because they are jealous of you.

Also, some Mexicans just don't like gringos. We're rich, powerful, obnoxious, and we stole California. There's an element of jealousy in it as well.

Most racism in Mexico, in terms of believing someone inferior, so far as I noticed seemed to be directed at blacks and Indians. Its weird to hear a woman who is probably half-Indian herself to talk about how ugly Indians are. Traditionally whites were at the top of the totem pole in Mexico, and they still tend to make up the rich and powerful in the country, hence among some non-white Mexicans there may be kind of a mix of resentment and envy.

Nonetheless, I'm kind of surprised at the reaction you are getting.

I´m mexican, and I´m what you call white, but I live in Mexico. I would say that I agree with you, but you are not like the average american that we know. I don´t think that if you and your boyfriend lived in Mexico people would treat you like that, actually you would be very wellcome everywhere, even if you don´t speak spanish. But most mexicans that live in Mexico have never been treated in a bad way by any american, but I bet that some mexicans that live in America have been treated at least in a sour way by some americans. So that´s why they see you and treat you like that.
I hope that when you marry your boyfriend they will see you different, because you will become part of the family and family is very important for mexicans, we love each other a lot and we have many parties.
There are books about americans, I only know "The stuff americans are made of", but there are also some books about mexicans, like the ones by Octavio Paz, maybe you should read some of them so you could understand mexicans a little bit more and probably that would help you.
You are wellcome in Mexico anytime you want. I think that because the way you think and because you have more real information about mexicans, you will see it warm and beautiful and you will love the food and the weather.

All cultures have stereotypes, wether they like to acknowledge them or not. In some (although twisted) way, this resentment of you as a non-Mexican, may be a sign that your bf is held in high esteem........ if he wasn't valued as a good and decent person, people wouldn't care who he dated and perhaps the Mexican woman are resentful that they, as fellow Mexican's are being deprived of his attention and affection. As far as his family goes- it may not be right, but they have his "supposed" best interest at heart, and it may be your color, or it could be other issues that concern them. Maybe if you marry and have children they worry about language or other issues that they take for granted, but would be different with a wife and mom from a different culture. Many latin women are subserviat to husband's and maybe they are fearful you are too "American".

Hi Kate,I am Cory. You have to keep in mind that even though you are not racist and color blind as well, some people are not. Many people of all races have,still,and always will believe that you should " stick to your own kind".They are die hard believers of this stupid idea and you will probably never change their mind about it. Your best defense is just just to ignore it and continue to stay open minded. As they say,"to each his own". If you are truly happy with your man It should not bother you what others think and how they look at you. Take hold of the fact that you care about him or love him if it has progressed to that level and make your stand. If you hold steady in your decision and ignore the negatives, others will take notice that you are not going to change just to suit them and make them happy. Then maybe, just maybe they will see things from your point of view and you might just change their minds.

I am a Caucasian male from the state of Georgia. I know about racism. One of my first girl-friends was African-American and that did not sit well with the kids I went to school with.We caught hell from both sides of the fence and eventually she was so troubled by it , her mother sent her to live with relatives up north somewhere.I never heard from her again. When I started high-school in Phoenix,Az I took an elective French class. Our teacher was German and she spoke 13 different languages.Her peers held her in high regards but, the student consistantly made fun of her.

Racism will never truly go away. This has been going on since man started traveling the world.You may not always see it but, it will always be there lurking ih the shadows, just waiting for the right time to strike and reak havoc on mankind to try and keep us divided. World peace is all but fleeting glimmer of hope that may never happen in our lifetimes. Just continue to live and love. You are one of a rare but slowly growing group of people that are trying to stop the hatred and we need more people like us in the chaotic world we live in. Do not change who you are and what you believe in.

Your bf uncle prolly wanted a white women (guerras) but couldn't get one, then along came his nephew with his gf (you) & he's just pissed....

Anyway, who knows what those krazy mexicans are thinking anyway,,,,,,,Just concentrate on your bf,,,the rest of them can just fade away from your mind,,,,,,,
