I have aquired a semi, compact handgun that was brought back from germany after WWII, I am not sure of cal. but it looks smaller than a 9mm and bigger than a .22. The only markings on this gun is, S# 74377, Geco and has a circle with a P inside with a small crown topping the circle. It is Blue Steel with a brown Grip Any ideas on what cal? or information on this gun and or history? The closest i could find was a geco 9mm that looks a little like it but not compact that was used by german police post WWII.

As a Firearms Appraiser & Collector of WWII Military Weapons I'm unable to guess from your limited descriptioin what exact pistol you may have. Would it be possible to forward a simple digital photo to an address supplied to you. We can assure you that would make identification fairly simple and then we can give you a value. Please advise

GECO is the abbreviation of Gustav Genschow & Co., subsidiary of the Company, founded 1912, former manufacturer of pistol and revolver cartridges. I think Geco is still in business, though in ammunition manufacture only. Without having any idea what it looks like, I'd have to guess it's a Llama mod. 1, imported into Germany by Gustav Genschow in the early '40s to issue to German workers in occupied territory. There's a number of calibers that were available in other models, but the 7.65mm(~.31) is somewhere between 9mm(.38) and .22.

I don't know squat about the things, but 32 ACP was a very popular caliber, and the Belgians (FN), among others, must have made a zillion pistols in that caliber. Maybe this will at least give you a direction to look in.

It could be 9mm Kurtz(.380acp)
It could also be as fishy up yonder said a 7.65, but actually 7.65 is 32acp.
There's also a posibility it could be 9mm makarov, but I highly doubt it.
