2 indoor house cats
2 outdoor barn cats who were left by previous owner.. and are not fully litter trained...but are fed and cared for by us.
ALL are spayed or neutered
1 kitten we caught born wild to a feral mom - we are taming him..
how many are enough? well to sustain the population of cats being born every human should own 2.3 cats ...
how many is too many? depends on the space you have, money and time to spend on them.. sometimes people become "collectors" and the pets are not cared for and have no human socialization..
if all cats are SPAYED and NEUTERED than an average household can have 4 cats...

I have 3 and a think it's the perfect amount! We got 2 at the humane society, and they are about a year old now and are brothers, and then about 3 months ago we got another kitten (a boy who we thought was a girl at first!) and they are all beeest friends.. I was so proud because they were so nice to the little one. I like when they play and the little one chases the big guys though! haha! I think 5 or more would be too many for me. If we ever had a bigger house, we might go for a 4th. It's hard to say no to cats in need of a home!

Currently I have two. I will be getting another one when we move again, since flying a troop around the world is costly. I would like to have four at the end of the day, but it depends on where we settle down on this globe, and how many cat-astropies I can financially handle. Each one gets the best care, if I can't afford it, that means it's too many.

I have four cats and I love them all. They are all rescued. I am lucky cuz they all get along and love each other too. I would love to get one or two more, but I only live in a two bedroom condo and the space is too small for more. I think you should get as many as you want and as many as you are able to financially and emotionally take care of...

I have five cats. My husband had two orange ones, I had two white ones, and we adopted a big grey one together. We lost an orange one, Morris, due to a urinary tract problem, and recently got a orange kitten from the humane society, as something was missing. When I was single, two cats was perfect. Now that I'm married, five is perfect.
I think six would be too many for us. (All of them are indoor-only.) And we have to have at least 2.

We have two cats, one is mine. I think once you're getting near 10 that's time to stop. 5 is probably as many cats as I'd have at one time, unless there was a good reason to take another one in.

i have 2 and, to be honest 1 was enough! don't get me wrong, i love my cats to bits but my original cat really doesn't like other cats and from her point of view life would have been better if i had just kept it to 1 cat! my second cat is a sweetie and would love to be friends with her but she's having none of it!!

I have 5 total. All were rescued at different. The boys were adopted together. One is a black and white and he was was scared of everything and I think he was abused. At one point, it took me a year to be able to pet him on his head. The brown tabby is a medical mess, but I love him. He has asthma with bad lungs. He is on many meds to help him breathe, but he is a good boy.

I have 4 as well. But if someone comes to me and says they have a kitten they want to give away, I'd probably take it. I'm a sucker for a cute furry face! I'm actually surprised mine all get along so well. Every time I bring one home, the others accept the new one right away. I guess I'm just lucky.
