Only about 3 weeks left in the current semester, needing to leave because of personal reasons. I get several types of financial aid, 2 grants, and stafford loans. With it being this late in the fall semester how will dropping my classes now affect my financial aid for the spring semester?

Just to clarify, I need to drop all 3 of my classes for the rest of the semester but want to enroll again next semester, so I'd be dropping the classes and not fully out. Meaning I'd still be registered but not attending the remaining 3 weeks.

Well being a fellow college student, I know from personal experience what it like to have to drop a class for certain reasons. The truth is it depends on how many class that you have to drop. If you are dropping your class but not out of school then it will not affect your financial aid. On the other hand, if you drop or withdraw from your school entirely then it can affect your financial aid. Another reason for this, is it can only affect you if you make a habit out of dropping from all of your classes. If you want to know more, I suggest you go to the financial aid office at your college and talk with a financial aid adviser.

The correct answer is it DEPENDS. It depends if you have made a habit of this in the past. If so, this will catch up with you when the school reviews your satisfactory academic progress for the next year or even the mest semester. If not, dropping an occasional class will be fine. Typically you have to compelte 75% of the courses you enroll in and maintain a 2.0 GPA. Check with your school for the exact details.
