.....I want to check out some games for my son (9), I don't play them myself so don't know much about them ! I thought there would be tons of info out there but I can't find what I'm looking for.

IGN.com or gamespot.com follow the ratings on the games as much as possible. M rated are rated for adults only for a reason.
