1. CPS need to be called. That girl should not live like that. 2. There is no way to prove her innocence (even if she was innocent). Thankfully she is a minor and hopefully the courts will take pity on her. Ask for her to b released into the custody of someone more stable than her family.

From what you've said so far, she stole the shirts (i.e., left the store with them after removing the tags). While her background might get her some sympathy from the judge, she still stole them. Now, your question was cut off, but it seems like you were going on to say that she went back and took more clothes from the store. That isn't going to look good, not matter what her background is. First, get her out of the house she's living in. Secondly, get her a lawyer.

Well first to answer your question "Stealing but innocent?" the answer is no...if she is stealing she is not innocent but guilty of the theft. And with the continuation of your explanation it appears this kid has been stealing for quite a while and is now in the system.

It also appears that the kid is acting out some significant self worth issues and it also appears that unless she is court ordered into counseling she will become one of the many lost kids who will drop off the edge.

I would suggest to you that you write a letter to the judge that will be hearing her case. Ask the judge to keep your letter confidential but explain to him/her that you believe in this kid and then relate to the judge the family situation. Ask the judge to order her into counseling as a part of the sentencing and stress to the judge that you feel that she needs to look at self esteem issues and that through counseling she may be able to reverse the road she is on. The kid herself needs to talk to the judge and ask for some help.

There might be some last glimmer of hope here.

Good luck

If she removed the tags and walked out of the store without paying, she stole the merchandise. She may have problems at home but now has even bigger ones. I just can't believe she "forgot" to pay for over $500 worth of things.

Send her to a camp where they will teach her self value, respect and love. You still have a shot at turning her life around.
