You can use either, of course. What makes me laugh is when people buy mineral water and put tap water ice cubes in it.

Ice Trays - I just use tap water.
Automatic Ice Makers - The water is supplied from the tap (household plumbing) but there's usually a filter attachment that is in-line to the ice maker.

If your tap water tastes good the nuse tap, if you don't like the taste of it though, then use filtered. You can tuck some lemon slices into each cube before you add water and then you have lemon water cubes

you should go with filtered water for trays, because the tap water has some bacteria that can multiply with a low temperature. Cold ambient provide a perfect endowment for bacteria cultivation

No, if there's an ice maker that comes with your fridge it automatically uses running, tap water.
The most disgusting ice comes out of the automatic maker at my house.
It's so disgusting, I make my own ice using ice trays with drinking water.
Bottom line, make your own ice...you'll know what's in it.
You can even make flavored ice with fruit juice....

I use filtered , and not all auto makers are filtered .However you can put an In-Line filter in any brand.
