Yes I believe there should be restrictions in public places for use of cell phones. I feel this way because there are alot of ppl. that do not have the common courtesy to turn off their cell phone or put it on silent or something. It can be quite annoying when someone's cell phone rings during a movie or while trying to enjoy their meal or whatever the activity may be and very disrespectful. . As far as I know there are alot of public places that are restricting the use of cell phones. There is also text messaging. While a person thinks they have to make or recieve calls while in a public area, they could use text messaging.

In a movie theater during a show, it's extremely rude. There's nothing stopping someone from stepping outside into the lobby to send a text or answer a call. As for restaurants, I think some people let the loud obnoxious people get to them. Really though, how is it any different than having to sit near a lous group of people? Either way you're still hearing people jabber away. I don't really mind it so long as their voice doesn't carry. It's also a different story if you're in a fancy restaurant or some place like TGI Friday's.

Absolutely.
At any decent sit-down restaurant, it is considered impolite to take phone calls while at the table. Unfortunately, there are a lot of impolite people.
As far as theaters go, most of them explicitly request cell phones to be silenced or turned off. I don't know why that's so hard to do for some people.

No, only because it could be dangerous. Yes, hearing people talk on the phone is annoying but I'd rather be annoyed than put in a situation where something goes wrong and someone gets seriously hurt.

It's rude, but not worth legislation. Cell phones are a relatively new part of our culture and cell phone etiquette will sink in eventually.

One of my friends I go to lunch with, his cell phone rings NON STOP. I don't mind if its work related, because we work together, but usually its one of his butthead friends or family calling to shoot the crap. I find it to be quite rude.
I don't go to theatres very often. My living room is a theatre.
I find it especially foolish when people use the cell while driving.
They have no clue where they are at, what they are doing, where they are going, what speed they are doing ....

YES!!!
Many cell phone users are just plain rude and dangerous in public
They treat even the most unimportant calls as urgent and top secret
Don't get me started on using cell phones while driving
Someone hit me while using their phone

In a restaurant, I don't mind it as much, but when people purposely leave their phones on and pull them out and start talking on them while watching the movie instead of either getting up and leaving that comes off as so rude! (takes a breath)
