Blame it on global warming, and then blame the government for not acting fast enough to help the people.

Stay indoors and get under something sturdy - like a door-frame or strong table. Don't move from there until the earthquake has finished. Make sure you stay away from windows or anything large that may fall on you (like filing cabinets or overhead lamps.

As for the comments to get outside - that the worst possible thing to do. You're likely to be hit by falling debry and, even worse, live power lines. Even if there is damage to your building, the chances of it collapsing on you are very very small.

Try getting under a firm doorway or under a sturdy table. Arrange a meeting point for your family so you guys can meet because there WILL be after shocks (small earthquakes following). If you can, try turning off your gas so a fire doesn't start, you wouldn't want the San Fransisco earthquake again. There are many websites that have this information, try typing in keywords such as earthquake, information, emergency, pan. And get out of your building as soon as the shaking stops (to your meeting point). =D

You will most likely be hurt by falling masonry or furniture. Get under a strong table - or if possible go outside well away from anything that can fall on you.

Get in a doorway?

Or a room with no big windows like the bathroom and lie in the tub covered and packed with duvets and blankets - this may be what you do in a tornado???

standing in a doorway is usually reccomended, but thats only if its a small one.

if its big, in full honesty, you not safe anywhere.

you actually have a better chance outside then you do in a home.

If you can get outside and away from tall buildings, that your best bet. Otherwise, get in a doorway.
