I am only asking because I read an article in a South Carolina paper, ( I am on vacation in Myrtle Beach S. C. & having a great time) He stated that since this chase is a play-off type format, why should other 31 drivers race in the remaining races. It would be more $$$ for the sponsors of the 12 cars. He stated what other sports let teams play that didn't qualify for the play-offs to begin with. There is a computer in main registration office I use once a day to check out Yahoo answers. I am curious to everyone's opinion but I myself would like to see all 43 cars in the race because watching just a 12 car race wouldn't be as exciting. Good day to all

Get rid of the chase and go back to the old TRADITIONAL way

Several reasons why all 43 who qualify should race in the chase:
The race for the chase should be performed in the same conditions that the regular season racing is performed, i.e. same number of lesser skilled drivers.

Sponsors shouldn't be penalized with lack of exposure because they chose the wrong car at the beginning of the season.

Drivers all earn paychecks at these races, even last place finishers. Cut the payout of the smaller teams like that and NASCAR would be even more lopsided than it is now, because the smaller teams would have even less research and development $.

Sure it's about the money. Some folks act as if that's wrong. Aren't ALL professional sports when you get down to brass tacks?

As far as the points are concerned, chase drivers are already set apart from the rest of the field:
"Starting this season, the 400-point cutoff is eliminated and the top 12 drivers in the points after Race 26 will qualify for the Chase.

All 12 drivers will have their point totals re-set to 5,000; each will then receive a 10-point bonus for each race victory they had during the first 26 races."

Hope that helps. For more info on the points system, see the following link.

Well believe it or not those other 31 drivers out there have fans and sponsors too.

Every driver in the race has fans either at the track or watching from TV, and they want to see their driver race no matter if he's in the top 12 in points or not.

Those other 31 drivers all have sponsors. I bring this up because if those 31 drivers were ever told they weren't aloud to participate in the chase events, their sponsors would probably take their name and money out of NASCAR immediately.

The writer of that article probably doesn't watch NASCAR. Or else they would have stopped before writing the first line, realizing that the other 31 drivers out there are all racing for points.

There is another battle at the other end of the points, it's the battle to make sure you are in the top 35 spots therefore securing yourself a starting position in the first 5 events of the 2008 Sprint Cup series.

12 car swould be boring. The only time the field should be knocked down to 10 or 12 cars is during a green-white-checker. The top 10 (as they are running in that race, not just chasers) should run the last 2 laps and the rest parked. That way the race won't end when some nobody running 30th wrecks. I think Jimmie Johnson like the current rule though.

I disagree with the 'chase' format. as for 'play offs' there is more going on in the last 10 races then just the 'Cup'. if other major sports told their teams that only the top 35 teams were guaranteed to start the next season then they would want to play in the play offs as well.

There would NOT be more money for the sponsors of the 12 cars in the chase because there would be a lot less ppl watching and going to the races, so the sponsors would be losing exposure and therefor losing money.

The only 'fair' way I can see to fix this is to go back to the way it was. it wasn't broke so why did they try to fix it.

If I was racing and I was not in the 'chase' there is no way I'm going to get out of the way for someone that is in the 'chase', I'm going to make them earn the win just like I would every other race leading up to the chase.

just the way I see it, but I have been called 'old school' before!

Well, but NASCAR isn't like any other sport to start with, so why should they do things like the other sports? and absolutely, just those 12 cars would be boring. The other thing is, what about the incomes of the other 31 drivers? without those last 'few races', their income is reduced and thats a hardship to many of the drivers who aren't in the top 12. I agree with another poster who said "Let's do away with the chase and go back to traditional ways"

What about all of us fans whose driver didn't make it to the chase? They can still race and win races, so why should they be counted out. Do you really want to see a 12 car race? NOT.

Hope you have a great vacation. Myrtle Beach is on my list of places to visit in my lifetime, just haven't got there yet.

12 would be boring and the sponsers from the rest would be out of a lot of money. the person who wrote the article is probally not a nascar fan in the first place. the other drivers are still trying for a top 25 money list or top 35 owners points for next year so there is a lot at stake besides the top 12, DROP THE CHASE AND GO BACK TO THE OLD WAY PLEASE

Absolutely not on the idea that only 12 race. However I'm still undecided on the chasers and non-chasers having two different points systems. Some drivers feel that they shouldnt have the same points system and have 31 other drivers have a part in their chase.

I feel the cahse makes it very elitist and then the sponsors push hard for their drivers to be in that top group. It all comes down to money.

If ONLY the chase drivers could race the last group of playoff races then the other sponsors would be pushing for the old system back.
