We don't understand why, if Mohammed believed in Jesus, that Islamis are not Chrstians?

Muslims believe Jesus was just a prophet, not the Redeemer. They don't believe in the original sin, so no Redemption needed. And they think the One we call "the Holy Ghost" is in fact Mohammed.
As for peace, they can say what they want, it remains that they divide the world into "the house of submission to god" - them, and "the house of war "- us. Meaning, they can and must integrate us into their house, whether we like it or not.
So I'll be pardonned for being skeptical about peace between us and them. Extremists will always have justification to put bombs, considering the content of the doctrinal message they refer to. You, asker, might see them as "happening to be Muslims", whereas they think it's their god who put them in the position they are, in order that they fight for him and his cause... BIG BIG DIFFERENCE.
Besides, western politicians start wars for their own interests, which doesn't help to calm down the "sensitive" nerves of the Islamist extremists.
