I would be really careful. If you do use it only use a miniscule amount of flax - as in a few seeds worth. I know that adults have to be cautious and start very slowly as it will cause diarrhea if you take more that a a few teaspoons. I tried giving my (then) 3 year old flax seed and he got horrible diarrhea, he actually had it for a few days because I was adding it to his cereal and I wasn't catching on to the connection! A few months ago, he was horribly constipated so I put some in a milk shake for him, he drank a few sips and a few minutes later - well let's just say he was no longer constipated and I was throwing away the bathroom rug - poor guy was so embarrassed b/c he couldn't make it to the toilet on time.
So, just be carefull, try just a few seeds and then see what happens!!!
---Now, my son might just be the odd person who has such drastic and quick effects from flax, you might find your baby has no problems.

If a baby is stopped up its not from a need of fiber. Its from too much iron, too much dairy, or not enough to drink.

Change things up a little bit to find what it is thats stopping him up.

If you want to help him get moving, give him some grape or apple juice (just a small amount) or try a tablespoon of kyro syrup in his formula. If he's a newborn and stopped up, just a few tablespoons of water can move things a long.

If he's always stopped up though theres something amiss in his diet that needs to be changed.

I would not mix flax seed with anything for him yet, this will cause a lot of stomach pain. When my kids were constipated I would mix some karo syrup (light) with their milk or formula. This works very well. I wish you the best of luck!
